Budget Update, Reopening Schools, and Celebrating Staff
Posted 5/15/20

Dear CUSD Families,

We hope you had a great week! We wanted to share some updates with you as we move into the weekend.

Governor’s Budget Update

Yesterday Governor Newsom announced his May revisions to the California State Budget. Due to the economic conditions, the Governor shared that the state faces a $54.3 billion budget deficit, as well as a $19 billion decline in the Proposition 98 Guarantee, which sets minimum funding for schools.

We are performing our own analysis to identify exactly what this budget shortfall will mean for CUSD after July 1. We will share more news about these impacts next week.

Distance Learning Survey and Plans for Re-Opening the 2020-21 School Year

We are developing a survey for our families to share feedback on their current Distance Learning experience as well as expectations for opening school in the fall. We expect to distribute the survey next week.

We understand that many families and students are wondering what school will look like this fall and we continue to develop a plan for re-opening. Your assistance with the survey will help us understand your expectations as we prepare for the upcoming school year.

Classified Appreciation Week | Help Us Celebrate!

Join us as we celebrate our classified staff next week! Our classified staff ensures our students receive nutritious meals every day, keep their classrooms clean and safe, serve as the frontline of communication in our main offices and departments, and so much more. Is there a classified staff member who has made a positive impact on your student this school year? We want to know!

By this Sunday, May 17, send a creation to us so we can show them how much they mean to us! Submit your creation by either emailing or uploading it to this Dropbox link. By submitting your creation, you are giving permission to Capistrano Unified to use and share the content. Limited on time? Just sending a quick note of appreciation via email would be so helpful and appreciated!

Here are some ideas to show your appreciation:

  • Create a photo or graphic design
  • Create a video message
  • Type a note or a few words

Celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week

Last week we shared a heartwarming video from our students thanking their teachers for all they do. If you missed it, check it out on CUSD Insider!
