Dear CUSD Families,

Happy Friday! As we close out another week, we want to share resources and updates with you as we prepare for another week of distance learning. 


You are not alone!

We understand this may be a stressful time for you and your family, and we want you to know you are not alone. Our incredible District Nurses and School Counselors are available to help. 


District Nurses

If you have specific needs, such as questions about your child’s health and transitioning back to school, or any other health concerns, District Nurses can be reached via email or through the District Nurse Inquiry Form Located here: District Nurse Inquiry Form.


Your District Nurse is also available by email or phone. Reach out to your school site principal if you need your District Nurse contact information and do not have it.


School Counselors

Food & Nutrition Services | Meal Pickups Move to Monday and Wednesday Only

Beginning Monday, April 13, meal pickups will move to Mondays and Wednesdays only. On Mondays, students will receive two breakfasts and two lunches to last through Tuesday, and on Wednesday will receive three breakfasts and three lunches to last through Friday.

Capistrano Unified has served 81,015 meals — an average of 4,500 per day — since schools closed March 16, but has capacity to serve much more.

Enrichment Activities | What you may have missed

Thank you to those of you who joined us on Facebook and Instagram for the premiere of our supplemental enrichment activities for families. In case you missed it, the activities are outlined below:


“It’s Capo Toon Time!” 

Our first episode of It’s Capo Toon Time premiered on Tuesday, April 7. CUSD principal Curt Visca taught kids and adults how to draw a cartoon taco in a step-by-step format!

Parents/Guardians, remember to take a photo of your student’s artwork and email it to for a chance to have their art featured on an upcoming show!

New episodes will be posted at 1 p.m. every Tuesday on the @CapoUnified Facebook and Instagram. Episodes will also be uploaded to our YouTube channel.


Meditation with CUSD High School Teacher of the Year, Christy Curtis

Christy Curtis, CUSD High School Teacher of the Year led meditation sessions for all levels (elementary students, middle and high school students, and even parents). If you missed them, watch the recordings on our Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube channel.


Anthony and the Smalltones

Our first episode of Anthony and the Smalltones premiered on Thursday, April 9. Anthony Small, co-founder of Music Preserves Foundation led preschool and elementary students in a sing-along featuring classic and contemporary children’s songs. New episodes will be posted at 1 p.m. every Thursday on the @CapoUnified Facebook and Instagram. Episodes will also be uploaded to our YouTube channel.


Artist Spotlight Series

Are you ready to rock?! CUSD and Music Preserves Foundation are launching a new “Artist Spotlight Series for middle and high school students. Presented by Music Preserves Foundation, each episode will feature a short interview and performance from a touring or local professional musician and a CUSD student artist.

Our first episode will premiere next week, featuring Molly Bergman, a senior at Dana Hills High School singing an original song, and local artist Jason Feddy.  Don’t miss the premiere on Wednesday, April 15 at 1 p.m. on Facebook and Instagram! Episodes will also be uploaded to our YouTube channel.

CUSD students, would you like to be featured on the “Student Spotlight” segment of the show? Interested middle and high school students should email a YouTube link of their song to


Board of Trustee Meetings


The April 15, 2020, Board of Trustee special meeting will be live-streamed on our website, The Board meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. We are currently testing a new system that will allow community members to view the meeting from their computer or cell phone and participate virtually. We will post the agenda on our website and provide more information via email early next week.
