Update Re: Distance Learning
Posted 3/31/20

Good Evening CUSD Families,

Today, all California Superintendents received a letter from the California Department of Education, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony Thurmond.

The letter states, ‘The need for safety through social distancing warrants that we continue to keep our school campuses closed to students during this pandemic.’

The letter further states, ‘Due to the current safety concerns and needs for ongoing social distancing it currently appears that our students will not be able to return to school campuses before the end of the school year.’

This is in no way to suggest that school is over for the year, but rather we should put all efforts into strengthening our delivery of education through distance learning.

The full letter is attached to this news item.

At this time, we are scheduled for distance learning to continue through Friday, May 1, 2020. However, we are in the process of planning a distance learning program that could continue through the school year if necessary.

As previously communicated, the date to resume in-classroom instruction (currently May 4, 2020) is subject to change based on future information. Our Board of Trustees will discuss the school calendar at the April 15, 2020, public meeting. We remain focused on the health and safety of our students, families, and staff and we appreciate your patience and flexibility as we navigate these ever-changing days.

Thank you,
