Math Course Placement criteria For Fall 2020 Placements - Current Capistrano USD Grade 5 Students (Updated 5/18/20)

Due to recent changes in how current Capistrano Unified School District Grade 5 students qualify to enroll in Math 7 Accelerated in Grade 6, the math course placement criteria provided below is different than in past years.

Grade 6 Math Course Placement Criteria for Current (2019-20 School Year) Grade 5 Students

Math course placements for incoming Grade 6 students currently enrolled in a Capistrano USD elementary school will be based solely on the following criteria...
(1) Earn a scaled score of 518 or higher on the Winter 2020 Grade 5 iReady Math Assessment
OR
(2) Earn a scaled score of 2623 or higher (NOT 2629, as previously indicated) on the Spring 2019 Grade 4 Smarter Balanced Summative Mathematics Assessment

Incoming Grade 6 students who met one or both of the criteria above qualify to be placed in Math 7 Accelerated in Grade 6 in Fall 2020.  Incoming Grade 6 students who did not meet either of the criteria above will be placed in Math 6 in Grade 6 in Fall 2020.

Given that the previously-administered "Math 7 Accelerated Placement Test" has been replaced by a combination of the iReady and the Smarter Balanced math assessments for Grade 6 math course placement purposes, no additional math course placement testing opportunities will be available for Fall 2020 math course placements.

NOTE: For Fall 2021 math course placements, a minimum scaled score on the Spring 2021 Grade 5 iReady Math Assessment OR the Spring 2021 Grade 5 Smarter Balanced Summative Mathematics Assessment will be used.
