The Food and Nutrition Department of Capistrano Unified School District is a team of food service professionals working in conjunction with parents, students, and educators to provide a healthy school nutrition environment. Food and Nutrition Services recognizes that wellness and proper nutrition are related to students’ readiness to learn.
We strive to provide a variety of healthy choices that appeal to students. All meals served to students are analyzed to meet or exceed requirements of the United States Department of Agriculture and newly passed legislation. Our menu items feature whole grains, and are low fat, contain zero trans-fats, and are low in sugar and sodium.
Our Food and Nutrition website features school menus and carbohydrate and calorie information, free and reduced meal applications, prepaid forms and internet deposit. Parents can prepay for meals and/or healthy a la carte items by setting up a prepaid account. This can be done by filling out a form available at your school or on our website where you can pay by cash, check, or charge or internet deposit for your convenience. By using internet deposit you can monitor your child’s spending, set spending limits, and monitor their lunch balance.
Food safety is a priority. Our employees are highly trained and certified in safe food handling procedures. Our facilities are regularly inspected by the Orange County Health Department.
Capistrano Unified School District has adopted a Wellness Policy (BP-5030). We encourage parents and teachers to provide healthy food choices or non-food items for class parties, celebrations and classroom incentives. Working together we can make student health a priority.
