Calendar Revision: March 17
Posted 3/17/20

Dear CUSD Families:

Although this is Spring Break, our teachers have been busy planning for distance learning, which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, March 24, 2020. Superintendent Vital, District leadership, and staff have also been working on evaluating and implementing Governor Newsom’s Executive Order, released last Friday night, which included mandates that required time and a plan to implement.

Your student’s teacher will be reaching out to you next Monday to provide more information to you and your family on distance learning.

On Sunday, the Orange County Health Care agency shared that there was evidence of community transmission of Coronavirus within the county. Additionally, Governor Newsom stated during his press conference today at 3:00 p.m. that he does not expect schools to be back in session in the near future.

Superintendent Vital will submit a revised calendar to the Board of Trustees for ratification at the March 25, 2020, Special Board meeting. Students will be out of school until at least Monday, April 13, 2020:

  • March 24 - April 3: Distance Learning with teachers
  • April 6 - April 10: Student Enrichment opportunities
  • April 13: Return to school (subject to further calendar revisions)

During the week of April 6-10 families will receive resources to provide optional enrichment opportunities for students for greater flexibility for families. During this week, work will not be required or graded. We will continue to evaluate the school calendar in the days and weeks to follow.

Thank you for your flexibility and support as we adjust to this very crazy school year.

Sincerely,

Ryan Burris
